What is the difference between eau DE toilette and perfume?

are they the same?or diffrent things?

thanksWhat is the difference between eau DE toilette and perfume?
parfum (perfume) is stronger than eau de toilette.

Perfume, also called extract or extrait perfume, can include 15-40% perfume concentrates. This is the purest form of scented product and is the most expensive as a result.

Eau de parfum contains about 7-15% perfume concentrates. This is the most popular and common form of perfume. It provides a long-lasting fragrance and generally doesn't cost as much as extract perfume.

Eau de toilette has around 1-6% perfume concentrates. This makes for a light scent that doesn't linger as long as the more intense versions. It was originally intended to be a refreshing body splash to help people wake up in the morning.

Eau de cologne is sometimes used interchangeably with the term eau de toilette. However, the concoction began as the name of a light, fresh fragrance mixed with citrus oils and was made popular by Napoleon. Some perfumers today have a version of this called eau fraiche. What is the difference between eau DE toilette and perfume?
Rose,

Great answer!! I have a question. I have a bottle of Chance by CHANEL. On the front of the bottle it is labeled ';Eau Fraiche'; and on the bottom it labeled ';Eau de Toilette';. Is ';Eau Fraiche'; just another name for ';Eau de Toilette';? Report Abuse

Eau de toilette is, literally, toilet water - toilet not being that white porcelain thin in the bathroom, but rather the process of a woman's makeup. And the last step in a ladies toilet is that touch of perfume. Perfume is very concentrated, very strong and usually has an oil or attar base, to make it last a long time. It is also very expensive. Eau de toilette is the same as perfume, but a very dilute version of it. It costs less but it doesn't last as long. Cologne is another watered-down-version of perfume. Or, as the people who sell the stuff refer to it, a 'lighter scent'
Eau de toilette is exactly what it sounds like. We call it toilet water. It's the actual fragrance watered down. The parfum is the actual fragrance, very strong and you only need one small dab. It's more expensive and often times not sold.
perfume is more pure, eau de toilette is in a sense watered down
They are different. Eau de toilette (edt) is a bit lighter, not as strong smelling and long lasting as eau de parfum (edp) because edp has a higher perfume oil concentrate which makes it stronger, better quality and usually more expensive. With edt you may need to add more sprays because it is ';watered down';.
